Reason To Believe

If I listened long enough to you
I'd find a way to believe that it's all true
Knowing that you lied straight faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe
Someone like you makes it hard to live
 Without somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think of myself
If I gave you time to change my mind
I'd find a way to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe...
--lyrics from the song, Reason to Believe by Tim Hardin

****

I took these photos last week while on the road to Texas--a state I'd never visited before. It was a very long road trip through parts of old Route 66 and smaller state highways where bits of the old and forgotten were everywhere. On the trip back, this quiet radio program called Hand Crank Radio in Arkansas played a song written and sung by Tim Hardin and somehow, the passing scenery paired with his sweet sadness stayed with me long after it ended. So I'm including it to go along with this little series.

  1. This started out hopeful, but went downhill fast. A very sad song. I hope you are only quoting as an observer, not one who lives in it.

    1. Thank you Sandi,--yes the song was very sad and so was much of the scenery...just felt like the deep countryside is littered with the ghosts of so many hopes and dreams

    1. hi ew! i think you would like route 66 very much, it's very very long (it goes all the way to california) and so I haven't even seen half of it! but its really fun and interesting...glad you like the song too-- a road trip's not a road trip without music :)))

    1. thank you George, very glad you liked this series--and happy you looked up Tim Hardin too--i knew the song 'reason to believe' from the rod stewart version and didn't know tim hardin wrote and sang it at until i heard it on the radio on that program...

  4. What an original proposition. I love it and pictures are all very good. But the son is very melancholic
